As a starting point I'm taking the intersection of Rt. 495 and I-90 (MASS Pike) in central Massachusetts, everyone should be able to estimate the best way to get to this point.
- Take Rt. 495 North to Rt. 95 North (to Maine)
- Take Rt. 95 to Bangor where you turn onto Rt. 9 East to New Brunswick
- Take Rt. 9 to the end, turning South on Rt. 1 (Follow sign to St. Stephen Border Crossing).
- After passing through customs turn right onto Rt. 1 East (Follow signs to Saint John)
- Pick up Rt. 2 and follow signs toward Moncton
- From Rt. 2 take Rt. 104 East toward Truro
- Stay on Rt. 104 following signs to Cape Breton Island
- After crossing the bridge onto Cape Breton take Rt. 105 to North Sydney. Follow the signs to the Ferry Landing.
- Book your crossing from North Sydney to Port aux Basque, and your return from Port aux Basque to North Sydney, the ferry crossing takes around 6 hours. (I get a sleeper bunk for the trip so I'm ready to drive the next leg.)
- Once you arrive on the island of Newfoundland: follow the TCH East toward Grandfalls/Windsor, continue East for about 20 minutes until you reach Rt. 360.
- Follow Rt. 360 South for 2 hours until you reach Jipujikuei Nature Park, the sea plane base is located and easy to find within the park. (This is only a few miles after the turn off sign to Conne River.)
- Once at the base you will have time to relax, prior to being flown back to Dolland Pond Camp.
- You will depart Dolland Pond Camp on the following Sunday back to the sea plane base.
- Once at the sea plane base a staff member will ensure that you have all of your gear, equipment, and cargo on site. Additional coolers, ice, and meat processing is available in Conne River.
Special Instructions
Insure to book your ferry crossing to and from Newfoundland two months in advance. Road maps can be obtained at any gas station along the route in Newfoundland. There are many moose and Caribou that transverse the highway, so ensure that you drive with extreme caution.
