SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT

Quebec/Labrador Caribou Tag-A-Long hunt scheduled

Hello,
Many of my regular clients have asked about Quebec/Labrador caribou hunts over the past 8-10 years and have gotten the same answer. "I don't recommend those hunts because there isn't anyone up there I've found trust worthy enough to believe anything they tell me!" Trust me, over the years I've tried to find a good camp to send clients. I've gone up myself on five different occasions and have taken or sent dozens of clients in the past. Most of them have never forgiven me!

That was a big reason why I got involved in promoting, and then took over, the Dolland Pond Camp in Newfoundland. We've enjoyed nearly 100% success for seven years and last year we were 100% successful on record book animals. It just doesn't get any better than that! Many of our clients have been back to Newfoundland several times and are looking for something new. Some want to try to get all five caribou sub-species. Then I have other clients that have been after me for years to find them a good hunt in Quebec. With Dolland Pond booked three years in advance I could take the time to work on something else, and I was fortunate to find the "right" guy to work with.

I met the person "face to face" at the Pope & Young Convention this winter and found that a number of my good friends have hunted with him giving him very high marks. Not only does he run a good camp, with good equipment, he is in a great area, and he is honest! That is a near impossible combination to find in that Province I'm sorry to say. There is a problem however: with his success rates, and reputation, he is booked 1-2 years in advance, especially for the prime weeks at his best camps.

To get the best camp for the best week, and set it aside for a group of Tag-A-Long (bowhunting only) clients, I had to book for the '09 season. Sure there are a few openings here and there during the next two seasons (if you act quickly) but I wanted the last week of August and I wanted the best camp he has for bowhunting. I've put all the details on a separate sheet and attached it to this message, but here is the important "stuff". I've promised to book this week full by August 1 of this year, and he's agreed to hold the dates and the prices until that time. I've also agreed to take the same week at the same camp every season starting in '09. To get this done I'm going to push hard to get the word out, and book people on a "first come-first served" basis. I need a deposit of $1250.00 ASAP to hold any places. The checks can be post dated to August 1 if that helps. The next payment isn't due until Feb. 15, 2009. There are only ten places available and I expect they will go quickly. If there is enough interest, quickly, I may be able to book a second week right after the first week so we'll control the two best weeks at this camp in the '09 season, but I can't be sure this will happen. If you want one of the openings for '09 email me quickly roygoodwin@comcast.net and tell me the deposit is on its way. I'll hold your place for a few days to give the mail a chance to catch up.

For those that don't like to plan this far in advance... I can only recommend you get used to it! All the best hunts are very limited any more and the only way to get involved in the best hunts, at the best places, during the prime weeks, is with advanced bookings. I'm doing a bison hunt in BC this fall; I was on the waiting list three years! I was on a waiting list six years to get the polar bear hunt I wanted for last spring. Anyone wanting to book a caribou hunt at Dolland Pond right now will have to go on a waiting list and the best they can hope for is 2009. Our moose hunts are almost as bad!

This isn't to say you can't book a hunt without waiting; you just can't get the best hunts. If you want to go "NOW" and take your chances, I wish you the best of luck. You might even get lucky. But then again, you may spend the time and money and then have to re-book for the following year to try again. Wouldn't it be better to wait and do it right the first time? You decide.

Here are the hunt details.

Good hunting,

Roy Goodwin
