About Roy Goodwin

An archer and bowhunter for over twenty-five years, Roy has been a serious trophy bowhunter since the early eighties. His quest to collect a wide variety of representative trophies of Big Game animals with archery tackle has taken him across North America and even to Africa. He has taken over twenty species of big game animals with the bow, including twenty-one animals (fourteen species) that have been entered into the Pope & Young records system, a number of SCI gold metal trophies from Africa, and numerous small game and exotic species.
He has been a principle in two video production companies and involved in the actual production of four feature bowhunting films. His bowhunting exploits led to success in the field of outdoor writing, with feature stories in dozens of publications and as publisher of Bowhunting News for nine years.
He has run Tag-A-Long Consultants (a booking agency for bowhunters) for over 18 years, and was founder/director of NETAA (North East Tournament Archery Association) and AFCF (The Aim For College Foundation) for a number of years helping to promote archery throughout the northeast. He was also an active and successful tournament archer in the late seventies and early eighties, and has been the featured seminar speaker at a number of outdoor shows and conventions.
Roy has been an official measurer for the Pope & Young Club since 1987, was accepted as one of only 200 regular members in 1999, was a panel judge for the 2005 convention, and is now a senior member. He is also and official measurer for Boone and Crockett and several other organizations. He is a life member of both the Mass. Bowhunters, and the United Bowhunters of PA, and holds membership in many other sports related organizations.
In 2006 Roy purchased a hunting lodge in southern Newfoundland from an estate. The lodge had not been used in three seasons due to the prior owner's death, but is an idea location for trophy woodland caribou, moose, and black bear. He is developing the camp as a "bowhunting only" lodge with the goal of having it soon become the premier archery caribou camp in North America.
His active involvement in archery/bowhunting includes writing a regular "Trophy Bowhunting" column for www.bowhunting.net, as well as an occasional "ON LINE" feature hunt series for that web site. He also has been instrumental in the establishment of several bowhunting only operations over the years, and continues to expend considerable efforts in this area on a regular basis. In his spare time he continues his pursuit of the North American Super Slam (28 species) with the bow.
