Tag-A-Long Announcement

Over the last several months we have been on a real "rollercoaster" ride with respect to putting our long range Newfoundland hunt plans together. Those that have been along for the ride, or those going through the archived information on the site and columns written for www.bowhunting.net, will appreciate some small part of what has been going on. To summarize, I'll offer a short outline here:

A. Seven years ago I happened upon a new "Bowhunting Only" operation just getting started for woodland caribou, and went with several friends to "check it out". It was "GREAT", and Tag-A-Long Consultants immediately started sending clients to this camp. The operation running the camp was named "Sipujij Lodge" and the camp was on "Dolland Pond". The camp had not been hunted in nine years and has only been hunted these past seven years by bowhunters...the hunting is awesome!

B. While the bowhunting for trophy class woodland caribou has been as good as it can get, there have been management related problems with the camp that we've had to fight our way through. Communications have been "tough" at times, shipping meat/trophies has been erratic at best, and the consulting agreement has been an "off again, on again" proposition. We've tolerated these problems because the hunting is almost too good to be true, but life has not been easy!

C. This past winter the lease for the camp expired and we were notified that another operation would be taking over the camp. Unfortunately, along with this news came a report that the new management had no interest in keeping the camp exclusively bowhunting. It was time to move on!

D. An opportunity was presented to purchase another camp (Sit Down Pond Camp) in the same general area, and this camp had not been hunted in three years. Negotiations began, and the camp was "under agreement" in short order. While the details for closing on the sale were being finalized the web site was developed and plans made for this fall to hunt the new camp.

E. Four weeks ago (Late June '06) the purchase deal fell apart for a number of reasons in the eleventh hour. During the same time period, the proposed management of the Dolland Pond Camp backed away from that deal, and the owners of the camp offered the long term lease to Tag-A-Long Consultants to keep the camp "bowhunting only".

F. Over the past four weeks all details have been worked out and a lease agreement has been signed. We not only took over full operation of the Dolland Pond Camp, we were able to add the Byron Lake Camp to the agreement, giving us more tags and a larger area to hunt.

Of course there is much more to all this as anyone could imagine, but those are the highlights and the important details. We now have a lot of work to do to switch gears for this fall and the future. The web site will be re-worked over the next few weeks to bring all the information current with the changes. This notice will appear on the site to explain what is going on and hopefully eliminate some of the confusion. While disappointed that the camp purchase didn't come together, this lease is a very good thing for Tag-A-Long Consultants and our clients. The Dolland Pond Camp is a proven producer of great trophy class animals, and with the continued management plan in effect the hunting will only improve. We will expand into new areas surrounding the camp, and expand on services provided. Because all dealings will be exclusively with Tag-A-Long Consultants, who will have total control of the camp, communications will be significantly improved. While this will always be a trophy bowhunting camp for woodland caribou first and foremost, we will be improving/expanding the trophy black bear hunting (both baited in spring and spot and stalk in the fall) and taking steps to increase success ratios (and trophy quality) on our very limited moose hunts.

We have gotten off the "rollercoaster" and are forging ahead in one unified and positive direction from here. Hope you can/will join us.

Roy Goodwin
